Mobile outreach in West London

Citizens Advice Hounslow leads the way

Launched by Citizens Advice Hounslow in 2023, this Mobile Advice Unit to bring vital support services directly into communities across the London Borough of Hounslow. This fully equipped van includes seating, heating, Wi-Fi, electrical hook-ups and laptops, enabling advisers to securely access systems and deliver on-the-spot assistance. Its purpose is to ensure residents can access advice easily, regardless of barriers such as transport costs, mobility issues, caring responsibilities or lack of awareness.

Many residents are unable to attend traditional appointments, which can lead to unresolved issues escalating into serious problems like eviction, debt or loss of income. Outreach takes place in trusted community locations such as estates, community centres, high streets and faith venues. By operating within neighbourhoods, the Mobile Advice Unit removes these barriers and makes support more visible, accessible and approachable.

The service provides free, confidential and impartial advice on issues including housing, welfare benefits, debt, employment rights, cost-of-living pressures and immigration. Where needed, residents are referred to specialist organisations for further support. Delivered as a drop-in service, the van allows people to seek help at the moment they need it most. Additional support, including interpreting services and accessible materials, ensures inclusivity for Hounslow’s diverse population.

By promoting early intervention and increasing awareness of available support, the Mobile Advice Unit helps residents stabilise their circumstances, access entitlements and prevent crises. It also strengthens trust between communities and services, ensuring more people receive the guidance they need.
