‘It’s made a huge difference’
Guardian reports on Citizens Advice East End 's work in Schools
The Christmas period can be a difficult one for families under financial stress - it's great to see the Guardian and Oberserver run a Charity Appeal for Citizens Advice over December.
The Guardian are also carrying a report on Citizens Advice East End Outreach outreach programme, which enables advisers to see clients in community spaces such as schools and hospitals, which has been crucial in widening access to the help and support to vulnerable people, and raising its visibility in the community.
The paper quotes the head teacher of a local primary school, where more than 40% of children are entitled to free school meals, describes how the presence of Citizens Advice has been immensely positive: “It’s made a huge difference to a lot of parents, [helping us with] things we don’t have time or expertise in...Our children work better if their parents are in a good place. It’s [about] the whole family.”
