London datasets and reports

To understand Londoners advice needs better, it is important to have access to a range of verified data sources and research, and to be able track emerging issues.

The following sites have rich data sets

Centre for London - The London Intelligence
The London Intelligence tells London’s story through data. This quarterly publication identifies the changes taking place in the city, to help policymakers prepare and plan for the future.

Child Poverty Action Group - Child Poverty in London
CPAG's are running a London focused project for three years to work across the voluntary sector and with politicians at local, regional, and national level, towards a London where no child experiences poverty.

Civic Strength Index
The Civic Strength Index helps London boroughs and organisations support discussions about the strengths of their communities and consider how build on them.

London Datastore
The London Datastore is an initiative by the Greater London Authority (GLA) to release as much of the data that it holds as possible.

London Poverty Profile
Independent source of information about poverty and inequality in the capital supported by the Trust for London. London's Poverty Profile uses the latest official data to reveal patterns of poverty across the capital.

London's Economy today
GLA Economics provides expert advice and analysis on London’s economy and the economic issues facing the capital. Data and analysis from GLA Economics form a basis for the policy and investment decisions facing the Mayor of London and the GLA group.

London Mapper - a Social Atlas of London
This website aims to provide comprehensive insights into the state of poverty and inequality in the capital and aims to become a growing repository of a wide range of maps, visualisations and analyses on London.

ONS population data on London
The Office of National Statistics produce various population datasets about London from the Census and other surveys.

Cost of living data

GLA conducts regular research with Londoners to provide evidence and insight into public opinion and behaviours, in order to support effective and impactful policy making; these datasets the latest research conducted by the GLA on public attitudes and behaviours in relation to the cost of living in 2022.

London Citizens Advice have been working with London Councils to share our data and insights of cost of living issue, including building a London version of Citizens Advice Cost of Living Dashboard. For the London version see - London Dashboard.


Debt Datasets

Currently, around one in twenty of all family units in London is in arrears (London Datastore) on at least one of their household bills; this is close to the UK average, lower than northern England regions but higher than in London’s neighbouring regions. However ONS data (see link below) suggests, that household debt is on average more 'burdensome' for households in London than in other regions. Also various research studies into household finances have shown that Londoners spend a higher proportion of this income on essentials such as rent or fuel.
