Debt and Money Advice for Londoners

The Money Advice and Pension Service (MAPs) reckon that around 9.3 million people across the UK were in need of Debt Advice in 2022, and that London is the epicentre where need for advice is greatest and rising the fastest. London Citizens Advice are working harder than ever to meet local needs.

The most recent MAPS Need for Debt Advice Survey show that London continues to have the highest need for debt advice at 30% [compared to 18% national average], up from 27% in 2021. For the 2022 Survay MAPs have adopted a new methodology following a consultation on the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic (see London Citizens Advice response on this).

Several London local Citizens Advice are partners in Debt Free Advice (formally Debt Free London), a unique partnership of charities led by Toynbee Hall and funded by the Money and Pensions Service, that provides free, expert advice to individuals with problem debt. DFA advisors support individuals with all types of money worries - from rent and council tax arrears, to credit card and catalogue debt.

For more information on accessing support from Debt Free Advice see the find advice tool and services can also be accessed through other channels. The following local Citizens Advice in London are part of the partnership
